ZapPictures is a Hollywood-based production company owned by writer-director James F. Robinson. The company focuses on producing independent cinema that embraces authenticity and avoids convention and the easy predictability of genre.

ZapPictures produced the feature film, STILL BREATHING, starring Brendan Fraser and Joanna Going. The film was distributed theatrically in the US by October Films/Universal and internationally by Lakeshore Entertainment, Disney, Fox Latin America, Paramount and others. 

 

ZapPictures’ feature documentary, TINSEL - THE LOST MOVIE ABOUT HOLLYWOOD which won Best Documentary at the IFS- Los Angeles Film Festival. It is currently available on VOD.

 

Robinson;s current projects are FOUR PAST LOVES, a "post-romantic comedy" that will shoot in 2027 and THE LITTLE KITE, an indigenous drama set in Mayan Guatemala.

Robinson founded the new media company, CinemaElectric, in 1999 and served as its CEO.  The company developed a new kind of programming for mobile phones called "Pocket Cinema".  PocketCinema was distributed directly to mobile phones in more than 50 countries via clients including Verizon, Nokia, Sony Erricson and other top international mobile carriers.  After the company went public, Robinson left in 2006 to resume his filmmaking career.

 

Robinson's early work has been seen on PBS, The Disney Channel, The Discovery Network and others.​​​

Robinson is a graduate of Trinity University with degrees in Cinema and Art History.
